And your interest in my pension is what, now?

Full disclosure: I am a public employee in the state of Iowa and both myself and my employer pay into IPERS from which I will one day draw a pension.

This past Wednesday, an outfit from Chicago that goes by the name Taxpayers United of America came to eastern Iowa to suggest we move away from our current state managed pension system for public employees.  They suggest that we move towards a 401(k) type program with defined contributions rather than defined benefits.

Now there are lots of angle from which to get upset by this, but I will focus on only one: what the hell does an Illinois based tax reform group care about how Iowa funds its state employee’s pension?  That’s all.
